Doing weekly water tests in your fish tank is imperative to your fish's health. The most important levels you need to test are: Nitrite and Nitrate levels, Ammonia levels, PH levels and Oxygen levels. There are many different views on which one is best, strip or liquid tests. I have used both and I personally prefer liquid tests. In this post I will be listing the pros and cons of each.
Strip Tests
Pros
Quick and Easy
Little mess
Stored away easily
Cheap
Cons
Not 100% accurate
Gets wet easily when you don't want them to
Colour on strip doesn't always match colour on chart
Colours can bleed into one another
Have to buy ammonia tests separately
Liquid Tests
Pros
More accurate
Colours of liquid matches chart more
Testing water directly
All tests can be bought in one pack
Cons
More time consuming
Can be more messy
Expensive
From the pros and cons list, it is clear to see the pros out-weights the cons for the liquid tests.
